Urgent Action!

Urge Congress to Establish an Independent Commission on Torture

This is your chance to influence our government and help stop torture and prisoner abuse through extraordinary renditioning.

Go to humanrightsfirst.org and sign and send a letter to your congressperson or senator urging congress to form an independent commission on torture, modeled on the 9/11 commission. The commission would investigate and report on the detention and interrogation practices of U.S. military and intelligence agencies deployed in the global "war on terror" is essential to ending torture in our detention facilities in order to prevent another Abu Ghraib prison abuse scandal from occuring.

Justice cannot be achieved through the use of torture. It is wrong to use torture on prisoners, enemy combatants, or whatever name we want give to the people we see as threats to this country. It is wrong for the United States to ship prisoners to their home countries where there is a high likelihood that they will be tortured. We must not turn a blind eye to this evil. We must operate within the law (or as our president says "we got law") or risk becoming that which we are fighting against.
