Chavez Holds His Own Summit
Venezuela, one of the members of the "new axis of evil," is in the news again and while this report from La Jornada in Mexico (via WatchingAmerica.com) argues that Hugo Chavez appears to be trying to "make nice" with the US, increasing US attention is being paid to democratically elected leftist governments in Latin America.
The thoughts of one "high-level State Department official" on the likelihood of US intervantion is telling. I wonder if this is a more honest explanation for our current imbroglio in Iraq than freedom being "on the march." The official said: "Chavez will not be removed by us, as long as he continues his obligation to sell us oil."
